Pousada Castelo Palmela
Historic Hotel
Inhabited since time immemorial, the region witnessed Romans, Visigoths, Christians and Muslims. The fortification was erected between the 10th and 12th centuries, and nowadays houses a museum open to visitors. The Sado estuary, Arrábida mountain range, Tejo Plains, and on a clear day, the city of Lisbon, can all be seen from here.
Embark on the adventure and watch the pod of bottle-nose dolphins in the Sado River. This estuary, one of the largest in Europe, consists of various habitats, housing different water birds, amphibians, reptiles and mammals, such as the otter, bat and fox.
Built in the 15th century by Franciscan friars, the Arrábida Monastery contains a garden, a sanctuary, a hermitage, four chapels and a number of caves dug out in the rocks. Located in an area of rare beauty, it provides all the conditions for studying and reflection and hosts various gatherings and events.
With a track 1,270 metres long and a consistent 10 metres wide, the KIP is one of the fastest circuits in the country. It is located in Herdade de Algeruz, a vast rural estate that also contains a football pitch and a gym.
Considered one of the best markets in the world, it offers a great variety of fresh fish and seafood, as well as locally-grown fruit and vegetables. Pay close attention to the walls lined with ceramic tiles, the cast iron columns and Art Déco exterior.
The cliffs overlooking the sea, signalling the end of the plateau, the monumental Nossa Senhora do Cabo Espichel Sanctuary and the neighbouring Lighthouse, built in 1790 and still in operation, are undoubtedly spots worth visiting. On your way there, stop by the magnificent local beaches.
Sail on the Esperança Catamaran Sailboat to discover the Sado dolphin community, the magnificent landscapes of the Sado Estuary, Troia and Arrábida Coast. The trip takes place all year round, departing from Setúbal and Troia, and lasts two-and-a-half to three hours.
The tour through the House-Museum begins with a brief history of the company followed by a visit to the old wineries: the Adega da Mata and Adega dos Teares Novos, where the Periquita wine is aged, among others, and the Adega dos Teares Velhos, where the oldest Setúbal Moscatels rest, some of which are authentic relics dating from over 100 years ago. At the end of the tour, visitors will have a chance to discover and try some of the wines produced by José Maria da Fonseca.
Visit our welcoming main site in Azeitão, which invites you to discover the history behind some of its “secrets”.
More than a cycling trip, a Bike Experience! Bike Experience has been cycling through the Arrábida nature reserve and surrounding area for over 30 years. So long in fact that they comfortably refer to it as their “back yard”. Whatever your cycling style, Bike Experience has the ideal experience for you, with a different tour every week. However, if you’re looking for something different or more exclusive, you also have the option of our tailor-made experiences, which will undoubtedly meet your expectations.
Boat trip along the Sado River Estuary and Arrábida and Troia Coast to observe the Sado Bottlenose Dolphins, the friendly community living at the mouth of the river, with about three dozen animals, one of only three colonies resident in estuaries across Europe.
Designed to meet the needs of visitors, Vini Emotion Tours offers the best wine tourism experiences in the region. It promotes the local food and the existing cultural and environmental heritage, without, of course, forgetting the local handicrafts.
With Dreamland Tour you’ll enjoy an unforgettable day of sightseeing, experiencing unique sensations, flavours, views and delights.
